Since I had the day off Memorial Day and I had seen a posting on Facebook that Local Coffee was open for business that day, I decided it was time I ventured into their establishment to check them out and give their coffee a try. I arrived there a little before their scheduled opening time, so it gave me a few minutes to check out the entire shopping center to see if any other new eateries have moved in. Local Coffee is located at 700 E. Sonterra Blvd, Suite 1113. I was already familiar with a few other establishments located here as I have written reviews on both Auden’s Kitchen and Kumori Sushi.
I decided on my usual Latte which is my favorite from another local coffee shop. It was not too shabby. But as luck would have it, the owner of Local Coffee, Robby Grubbs, happened to come in just before I finished my Latte. We struck up a conversation about, you guessed it, coffee, and before I knew it, my eyes were glazing over with information about brews, blends, roasts and coffee machines. I soon came to realize that Robby is a kind of one man information source on coffee, which is good since he owns Local Coffee.
But I soon learned there is much more to Local Coffee that I probably never would have known if I hadn’t stopped in to check out this local coffee shop. Like they try to purchase and sell local products if possible; their coffees are prepared to the highest brewing standards; they use freshly roasted coffees from selectively picked direct trade roasters such as Cuvee Coffee located outside of Austin www.cuveecoffee.com; and they professionally train and educate their Barista’s.
I also found out that they do events like open mic every other Friday and live music on Saturdays. And there is a nice selection of wine and beer for you to choose from for the evening events.
In addition to their selection of coffees, there is also a selection of Loose Leaf Teas, Iced Teas and even Iced Toddy coffee. And to help satisfy the hungries, you can get Organic Oatmeal, Yogurt & Granola, Toasted Bagels, and a selection of pastries made just for Local Coffee.
Of course they are Wi-Fi connected so if you just can’t leave home without your computer, well ….you get the picture. “This place is all about building community”, says Robby. “And that’s just what I have done. You should see this place in the evening when the music starts. It is standing room only, and many of them are regulars.” So what’s not to love about Local Coffee? I can’t think of anything.
