Not just a spot for lunch or dinner.
I was invited to an Open House at Max’s Wine Dive last week-end to show off their new semi-private event space. We were catered to by General Manager Blade Haddock and his friendly and knowledgeable team. Max’s is more upscale than dive with a very trendy décor. However I was a little puzzled about the bar area out front, but was told it was a busy area later in the evening and offered a full bar.
Because of the Open House, I got to try several of the menu offerings as well as some of the wine. All were very good. A must try would certainly be the Max’ n Cheese, a Cavatappi pasta tossed in truffle cream with fresh mozzarella, white cheddar, Gruyere, and Grana Padano cheeses. This was a very nice and different version of a southern classic. Additional offerings at hand were the Artisanal cheeses with cured meats and seasonal fruit, Fried Chicken Sliders, Nacho Mama,s Oysters (crispy fried Gulf Coast oysters and garlic aioli on fried wontons with habanero salsa and cilantro) and Pulled Pork Stuffed Peppers (pulled pork and cotija-stuffed piquillo peppers, chipotle aioli, and cilantro chimichurri).
I decided to have dinner at Max’s after being tempted with the previous goodies. After reading the menu, I knew without a doubt I had to try the Fried Egg Sandwich. I certainly wasn’t disappointed. It too was a nice remake of an old classic. With three pan-fried eggs drizzled with truffle oil, apple wood smoked bacon, Gruyere, green leaf lettuce, tomato, and garlic black truffle aioli sandwiched between two pieces of artisan levain bread and served with MAX‟s chips, what’s not to like? It was large enough for me to take half home, especially after all the previous samplings. My wine for the evening was a very nice fruity and crisp New Harbor Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.
Max’s features wines from around the world but they are unique in that they also offer all their wines by the glass as well, thanks to the enomatic wine dispensing and preservation systems – allowing guests to taste numerous wines which have been stored perfectly and poured at the optimal temperature. In addition, you can buy any of their wines to take home.
If that wasn’t enough, you can also become a member of their Black Door. The Black Door was created so that the wine buying public could benefit from a revolutionary system of high-volume purchasing and “no-overhead” operations. As a result, people who buy from The Black Door get incredible deals on some of the world’s best wines. Plus, their “Try Before You Buy” program invites The Black Door members to visit MAX’s to taste any wine deal—FREE—before taking it home. Now that’s a great deal!
Max’s offers 100+ wines, award-winning gourmet comfort food, semi-private event space for groups up to 36, off-site catering and a friendly, wine-knowledgeable staff. They have a patio for outside dining as well and are open till 2am Thurs-Sat.
