Scuzzi’s Italian Grill

I decided to have lunch on Sunday at Scuzzi’s Italian Grill. I usually rate most Italian restaurants by the way they make their Lasagna, so I decided to order the Lasagna al Forno. Al Forno is a fancy way of saying baked in the oven, by the way. I guess it makes the dish sound more Italian opposed to just calling it Lasagna. Anyway, no matter how fancy it sounded, I found it to be only so so. The sauce was a little sweeter than I would have preferred, and the filling between layers of pasta was thin. I think Lasagna should have hearty filling. I like it to remind me of a day in the Italian countryside. The meat did have a good flavor though, not overwhelmed by spices as sometimes is the case and the cheese was ample.
The lunch dishes came with a nice portion house salad and the usual offering of bread. I didn’t care too much for the bread that was served, however the olive oil to dip it in was very flavorful.
I also decided to try the Apple Dumpling for dessert. The pastry was a very nice puff pastry, cooked wonderfully, but the apples, even though they were in a tasty sauce, were a little undercooked. The dumpling was served with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream, which was just starting to melt over the warm pastry.
I would say Scuzzi’s gets a medium rating from me which means I will go back and try them again.
Scuzzi’s is open every day for both lunch and dinner and they offer a full bar as well as a nice selection of wine.
