Amberjack Bar and Grill

I got to eat at the award winning Amberjack Bar and Grill while in South Padre Island last weekend.  It was so nice kicking back at a wonderful place with panoramic views of the Laguna Madre.  Best of all it was great having some really, really fresh seafood.

My husband decided on the grilled Mahi-Mahi with mango salsa and grilled vegetables.  Yes, I know Mahi-Mahi isn’t a gulf fish, but it was one of the only choices of fish entrees on the lunch menu.   In fact our only complaint about Amberjack was the lack of more fish to choose from.  But it didn’t keep us from finding something good to eat.  The Mahi-Mahi tasted so fresh and was grilled just right so it wasn’t dry.  In fact, it was very good.

I, on the other hand, had my mind made up before we got there I was getting the Fired Shrimp platter.  If you know me, you know I don’t usually get fried anything, but I had to have some fried shrimp while I was on the island.  I wasn’t disappointed either.  It was so fresh I felt like I was eating it right off the boat.  There were at least 10 jumbo shrimp, yes 10, on my plate and I ate 9 of them and traded one for a bite of Mahi-Mahi.  Almost an even trade.

Our friend decided on the Shrimp and Crab Crepes in a light cream sauce.  The crepes were very light and full of shrimp and crabmeat.  She assured us that the meal was very good and that she loved it.  She did eat all of her meal, so I guess we can trust her.

For dessert we all had to try the Key Lime Pie.  Amberjack’s presentation of the pie was very nice and the pie was tasty.  It was the condensed milk version of Key Lime Pie and it could have used a little more lime juice to cut the sweetness of the milk, but otherwise it was worth ordering.

Amberjack is open 365 days a year so you can go down and have some really great seafood on South Padre Island any time.
