New Contests for a New Site

Weekly Contest

At Flicks and Food, we realize life is always like High School. There are the smart kids, then there’s the popular kids.

The smart kids do well academically, they write beautiful essays, finish first in the science project and belong to various clubs.

The popular kids might write essays that make the smart ones cringe, but because they’re popular, they’re going to be Homecoming King or Queen anyway.

We’d like to address the Flicks and Food competitions to glorify both personalities!

Since Flicks and Food is under new ownership and trying to revamp the site, we’d like to get as many people to visit as possible. Which is why we’re running a popularity contest.

Here’s how it works:

Food

Go out and eat somewhere. You don’t have to make a special trip. Most people eat out at least once a week anyway, so while you’re there, take a picture of your food. Preferably before you start eating it… When you get home, or right there if you’re inclined, write a post about your experience. Tell us how it was. Tell us what you ate. Tell us about the service. We want to know all the details. Then, tell all your friends to go and check out your review. Tweet it out. Facebook it. Use all the social media at your disposal. Tell all your friends to go and vote for your review. At the end of the week, whoever has the most votes for their review will win a prize.

The second competition is for the nerds. Those people who may not have 5000 twitter followers, but who can write beautifully and eloquently and make me feel like I’m right there with you in the restaurant. Same deal as above, take pretty pictures, tell us about your experience, good or bad. Be descriptive. If I can taste the food you’re describing, you’re on the right track. We want quality writing here at Flicks and Food, and we’re going to reward it. The writer with the best written review will also win a prize.

We feel it’s important to recognize both contributors. We want lots of traffic, but we also want quality work. So go forth, eat and be merry. Then tell us, and your twitter followers about it.

To make sure you are in the running for that week, click the “Fresh Reviews” category, as well as any other category it will fit into. Each week, we will clear this category and start over.

Movie

There will also be a weekly competition for movie reviews. These can be new Flicks from the cinema, DVD reviews or something you see on Cinemax that we should all go see again. Please don’t give away the ending of the movie, nobody likes that guy who tells us who dies at the end…  We just want good reviews, not just a “don’t waste your time” review. I want to know why I shouldn’t waste my time. We’re going to do a hybrid of the popular/writing style. We’ll take the top 3 most popular reviews and choose the best written one from there.

Make sure you click the “Fresh Flicks” category to get your review into the competition for that week.

Each contest starts on Monday and ends Sunday night. Winners will be announced on Wednesday each week.

Wanna get Disqualified?

If you own or work at a restaurant, you can write a review for your own restaurant. However, if you intentionally write a bad review on a competing restaurant, we reserve the right to remove that review and block you from making further reviews.

Don’t want to sign up?

We know that signing up and trying to post something in WordPress can be confusing, so if you don’t want to go through the process of signing up,  you can also use the submissions page. You can still upload a pic of your food, tell us all about it and we’ll do the rest for you. Just make sure you fill out your name and email address if you want to be in the running to win a prize.

We’ve added the Friend Connect thingy at the bottom so you can get all your friends together and get them to vote for you.
