Auden’s Kitchen

A birthday celebration the other night brought us to Auden’s Kitchen. The comfort food here brings a smile to my face, reminding me of the comfort food from my small hometown but upped a notch with fresh touches. My meal started with the mixed green salad which was big enough to split with my husband. The roasted olive vinaigrette was a nice change to the usually too sweet vinaigrettes offered elsewhere. As an entrée, I opted for the Beef Short Ribs braised in Blanco stout. I found the ribs falling off the bone tender and finger licking good. The skin-on mashers and bacon apple sauerkraut were the perfect accompaniment for the hardy gravy. My husband couldn’t resist the buttermilk fried chicken and wasn’t disappointed. The chicken was crunchy and perfectly spiced on the outside, but wonderfully moist on the inside. And it was a plate fit for a large appetite. The fresh green beans, mashers and white gravy were a perfect compliment for the chicken. Just like Mom would cook for Sunday dinner.
We decided dessert was definitely a must at Auden’s. Who wouldn’t be tempted in trying a comfort dessert, right? My husband decided on the Baklava Cheesecake. The nut and honey crust and topping were a nice touch for the creamy cheesecake. Not sticky sweet or fruity for a change of pace. However my choice for dessert was the most luscious lemon pie I have had in many years. I have spent years comparing a certain lemon pie from my childhood to lemon pies all over the world. I have to tell you Auden’s Kitchen lemon pie is the pie of my dreams. A perfect flaky crust, a tart/sweet melt in your mouth, to die for filling and the perfect real, made from scratch meringue to top it all off. If you don’t get to Auden’s Kitchen for anything else, go for a slice of lemon pie. However I bet you can’t resist many of the other offerings on their menu.
Auden’s Kitchen is open for lunch and dinner as well as Sunday Brunch and they offer take away. They also offer an extensive wine and beer selection.
