In My Opinion:
Dickey’s BBQ Restaurant in San Antonio, TX was an unexpected experience than I could have imagined. I went to Dickey’s BBQ off of 410 and Blanco Rd. in the Park North Shopping Center. Dickey’s BBQ seemed to be a fast food BBQ restaurant. This is not what you’d expect to get from any BBQ place. As you first walk in, you get that fast food feeling instantly from the atmosphere and decor. Even the advertisement posters give you that fast food feeling!
When we got up to the counter, reading the menu and ordering was pretty simple. Also, I already knew what I wanted to order based on the recommendation by DickeysSATX on Twitter, whom has been asking me to come to the restaurant. I said I would, at my own convenience, as I don’t like to announce when I’m visiting places; so we can keep the review honest and unbiased. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with waffle fries and an iced tea. We got the order pretty quick and when I first got my plate I noticed the waffle fries portion was pretty small. My first bite into the sandwich was a little too dry for me. The pulled pork did not seem to have flavor and was unexpectedly not juicy. It was not bad, just not great or lip smackin’. It just wasn’t what I anticipated, from what was told to me.
Overall, the meal was average and if you’re looking for a fast food BBQ place, then Dickey’s is the place for you. However, I’ve got to say that the sweet tea here was really good. I could see myself making a trip here, if in the area, for the sweet tea.

They do promotions that add to the value, in my opinion. They’re offering $1 pulled pork sandwiches every Monday in Jan – Feb, so I’ll be stopping by for those.

Dickey’s was nothing to remember. Bill Miller’s is better. Rudy’s is good/great. Grady’s is great. The best are the mom and pop shops you can find around town but only if you leave smelling like smoke.

I went once to the one on Bandera. Don’t have the inkling to go back. I guess the BBQ joints in SA the better. Seem like BBQ I would find traveling somewhere like Oklahoma

Personally I found Dickey’s to be way over-rated. Food was “OK” and the prices were high for what we ordered. There are enough other choices around SA that I don’t have to go there again.

This review is pretty much what I expected. I pass by the location on Bandera and Eckhert quite often, and I NEVER see anyone there. That made me a bit weary, and it’s a good thing I got a heads up on the joint before I set myself up for disappointment. If I want drive-thru BBQ, I’ll stick with Bill Miller.

Although I haven’t been to Dickey’s, my mom and daughter go there for an afternoon snack a lot.
Don’t forget that kids eat there FREE, anytime…as long as you’re dining in. (Could do without this caveat as sometimes they don’t want to dine in.)
Eating leftovers – I really was surprised that that served fried okra, I liked it a lot!
Follow them on twitter, lots of good offers, I think their heart is in the right place…just not there yet.
*They go to the one off of Eckert and Bandera.

Is the BBQ sauce any good? That tends to be the real clincher for me…

I was not impressed with Dickey’s either. My family went to the location near Johnson High School several months ago and found the meat to be tough and fatty, and the sauce just average. A great BBQ fast-food option for North side is Smokey Mo’s at Evans and Bulverde.
