In My Opinion By Bill Archinal:
Kennedy’s Chicago Pizza in San Antonio, TX – My wife and I have been watching and waiting for Kennedy’s Chicago Pizza joint to open for months. The sign has been up and it appeared they were working on getting it open. On a recent trip down Potranco my wife saw that Kennedy’s Chicago Style Pizza was indeed finally open. We went on a Tuesday evening just before 6:00. There were a few people eating inside but clearly this is a grab and go place. There are a few tables and you can hear some music being played in the kitchen so it’s not overwhelming in the dining area. We decided to dine in. We ordered the medium Monster of the Midway, basically the toppings of a supreme pizza anywhere else. But that’s where similarities end.

This was a thick pizza. Truly a pizza pie. The toppings were large chunks and quite tasty. This pizza is very good. I gave the food quality a 9 only because the very outer edge of the pie was a little darker than what I prefer. I’m certain this is unavoidable given the thickness of the pizza. The staff is very nice and genuinely glad to see you. The oven releases the pizza close behind the front counter which almost forces the cook to be extra careful in removing and slicing. He takes great care in every step of the process. Our medium pizza and two Pepsi’s was $25. Order the small drinks if dining in, the refills are free. It was worth the wait, we will be back.

I went to this place about a month ago. I heard about how great it was and I saw the commercials. I was disappointed not only with the service, but the prices. This isn’t Chicago, so I shouldn’t be paying the prices. I had a friend that worked there, and he begged me to come and try it. I didn’t get a chance to try it until recently (he is no longer an employee, and I was hesitant about spending my money there because of the terrible things I heard about the owners and how badly they treat their employees). Anyways, knowing it was expensive, I went, and I wasn’t impressed. I have been to Chicago about three times before, and obviously it’s not the same as the actual Chicago Style Deep Dish. I heard the owner is over-confident about his “home-made” recipes, and honestly, the pizza didn’t taste any different than a box pizza from H-E-B. I would rather pay for Pizza Hut’s Pizza. Like I said earlier, the employees I dealt with weren’t exactly friendly. All I know is I won’t be going back to Kennedy’s or recommending them to anyone.

I love this place!!!! The food, people and service is so awesome!!! I have already been to Kennedy’s 3 times since last Friday! Me and my friend are definitely becoming regulars! The owners and employees are the best people and want to make sure that you are enjoying your food and visit! By far the best pizza ever! Everyone should definitely try this place. I’m letting all my friends and family know of this great place!

I’ve only been here once since it’s so far away from me but I remember it being pretty quick service. That may have been due to it was about 1:30pm or so. Not bad, would love to go back and try other items here.

Poor service + Bad Attitude + 50 minutes to prepare a medium pizza. Here is my story:

Tried Kennedy’s Pizza this afternoon with my coworkers during our lunch break. We each ordered pizzas. The lady who took my order needed to be corrected a couple of times as I placed the order–no big deal (yet). When I received my bill, she charged me for a medium instead of a smaller 12″ pizza. My coworkers received their pizzas in about 20 minutes. Mine came out in 50 minutes and it was the smaller pizza even though I was still charged for the medium. I was expected to return to work by around 12:15 or so. Fifty minutes after I ordered, my pizza was ready but by then my coworkers were already finished eating and it was time to drive back to work. I got up and kindly asked for the pizza to be in a to-go box so that I can eat it at work. The same lady who messed up my order had a horrible attitude and replied, “JUST for future reference, you should really call ahead next time you order pizzas from Kennedy’s!” I calmly replied, “There won’t be a next time.” The owner was sitting right next to me and heard me say this. Nobody went up to bat for me here. Such a horrible experience that I simply gave the pizza away to a stranger.

To bring my disappointment for Kennedy’s Pizza into perspective, I’d rather walk next door and eat 3 donuts at Shipley’s just to avoid 50 minute waits, overcharges, and bad attitudes.

      Good morning,

I am sorry your experience was not favorable. Yesterday we had a trainee on the table as Monday is typically a slower day. He has worked some at night, but this was his first lunch hour worked. It takes awhile for new employees to learn what goes on each pizza and get it in the oven in a quick manner where the toppings and timing meet the owner’s expectations.

The owner was in a meeting with a vendor at a nearby table. He was not aware that the kitchen staff was backed up or moving so slow or he would have gone back and helped. He caught the end where you mentioned that the pizza took a long time, finished his meeting and told me (his wife) that he would need to look on camera to see why the order took so long and talk to staff to make sure they alert him for help in the future so the customer does not wait so long.

I apologize for the attitude of the lady behind the counter. I will speak to hear this morning.

In summary, I do apologize for your unfavorable experience. We would like for you to give us another chance, but understand if you do not.

The crust was absolutely horrible. I have had Chicago style pizza for the past 25 years and this by far is NOT Chicago style crust. The crust is gross and the pizza is sloppy! Not a fan! Kennedy’s get a BOO!!

I also agree, this pizza was so good, it is absolutely the best pizza in town and worth every penny. We ordered the large for four of us and it was just enough. we each ate two pieces and were definitely stuffed, we loved every bite, can’t wait to try the Monster Pizza

We know the owners, and were happily looking forward to the opening.

The pizza was great, and for three of us, a medium was almost too much. We took some home!

They did have a break in shortly after opening, and their tv’s were stolen. We were told that they *are* working on the atmosphere inside, and have great plans for some Chicago-related artwork! Look for some upgrades!

I can concur, this is one of the most delicious pizza places in town. {Not exactly like Chicago style pizza}, but it’s very delicious.
