In My Opinion:
The Egg and I in San Antonio, TX – The Egg and I, The Egg and I, what shall I say about The Egg and I? I’m not sure if Dr. Seuss would have said it like that, but I did try The Egg and I. Thank goodness for such great company today, as my wife and I met up with Shawn and Steve at The Egg and I for brunch. We got seated quickly, which was great for a Sunday’s rush. Our waitress Niki was very courteous and helpful to us in guiding us through the menu.
Here was the biggest negative side about my first ever visit to The Egg and I, we waited almost an hour for our food after ordering. I was a bit confused on why it did take so long, perhaps they were under staffed that day or all orders in the restaurant was placed at once? I wanted to find out how long the store has been opened at this location and exactly what happened that day that we were not aware of. So, I did try and contact Tom Allen, the Director of Operations for the San Antonio Region to ask him a few questions, but I’ve yet to hear back after leaving my voicemail. Either way, you have to know, especially on a Sunday that you’re going to be super busy that day and prepare yourself.
Aside from the long wait, I had ordered the Cambridge Skillet, side of bacon, and OJ. The food was pretty tasty to my surprise. People really rave about the bacon there and I did find it well above average. I think for my follow up review, I will try another dish on the menu to see how it compares. The portion size is pretty large there so you’re getting a pretty good bang for your buck.
As for parking, there’s plenty of space to park since there’ in a new shopping center there. So if it’s super busy, you won’t have to park very far. The atmosphere is nice, mainly that even with it being so busy that day we’re still able to talk with our friends there. That’s a pretty key point, since you’ll usually come out here with friends and family, you’d want to be able to have your conversation with them. The Egg and I, The Egg and I, you and I will have another try, as for now say goodbye to The Egg and I.

I loved it- went on a Sat morning, around 11. Had a 10ish minute wait, which I think for a brunch hour on a weekend isn’t that bad. I’m a pretty healthy eater, so going to a restaurant with so many options was great. Even the pancakes are wheat! I think it’s a little something for everyone. Hazelnut coffee was good, the waitress even brought me a carafe so I wouldn’t have to ask for a refill. Portions are huge, so you definitely get full – even if you have to wait!

I went there for a brunch, mid-week, didn’t wait long at all for a table. Waitress brought my a carafe of water since I asked for more then one cup, which was nice. I had the crab cakes eggs benedict…was good, but sauce was really rich and ladelled on a little too generously.
Might go back, have a lot of friends who are fans of the first meal of the day.
*I-10 location.

I feel a bit uneasy about trying this place. Ever since I saw a few location pop up, I was dying to try it, especially since I am a breakfast fanatic. The worst time to wait, in my opinion, is when you’re starving first thing in the morning.

I honestly think they were under staffed that day! The manager attempted to smooth things over with customers, including us, but appeared too frazzled to leave a good impression. I enjoyed the food, despite the notoriously long wait, and thank God I made the wise decision to eat something before. If it wasn’t for the awesome company and good conversation, I might have walked out. All in all, breakfast should never be a giant feat for any restaurant, especially not one that specializes in it!!!!

well, i would certainly recommend trying The Egg and I. would stress to go there with great company like we did. the wait was long buy we hardly noticed due to scintilating table talk. (how ever you spell it) as a former restaurant manager then owner, it is absolutely inexcusable for breakfast to take an hour. at the end of the day if you put lipstick on a pig, it is still just bacon and eggs. an hour is ridiculous. that being said; i WILL definately go again, even on sunday. i want to see if this happens every week, like we were told by an employee. hey, stop reading this and go try The Egg and I yourself. just make sure you dont need to be anywhere for a while. (wink)
