In My Opinion By Maureen Fusco:
Roaring Fork in San Antonio, TX – I got to use my $25.00 Gift Certificate (which I won from Flick and Food) today for lunch at The Roaring Fork. My overall experience was delightful. We were greeted with a warm, friendly smile and immediate seating. Our server did everything right. We did not feel rushed, and attention was prompt without being intrusive.

I had the Pork Carnitas. The pork shoulder was very tasty and not at all dry. It was very lean, tender and not drowned in spices. The side of black beans was interesting, but not a flavor mix I would crave too often ($12.00). My husband opted for the special: A rendition of a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. It was a great choice. The steak was tender, juicy, and not overly spiced. It featured poblano peppers, along with a tomato cheese sauce. A good size portion of yummy fries accompanied the ample sandwich ($14.00). We did taste the other’s selection.

The decor is pleasant and seating is roomy. One observation: I don’t know how they prepare the tomato cheese sauce, but my immediate reaction was that it was pretty close to Velveeta and Ro-Tel. Delicious, but close to what we are used to preparing for snack dipping. I realize that lunchtime is not as crowded as dinner, but we dined comfortably and leisurely. And we did not have to shout. So many restaurants are ultra-noisy. Ours was a very nice experience.

In My Opinion By Erik Darmstetter:
Roaring Fork in San Antonio, TX – Well, I have been to the “FORK” about 20 times and am never disappointed. Mothers Day we arrived at 2pm and it was close to full but we got a great table and great service. My wife got a Waldorf Chicken Salad and I got an unreal Chicken sandwich on sour dough bread with cabbage. We left and the waiter forgot her take home part of the salad so they made a new one for us to have 3 hours later. I’ve got to say, at the Roaring Fork you will get: excellent attitude, people, service, care, concern and most important, its all REAL vs. faux marketing attempts.

I ate at the Roaring Fork in San Antonio tonight and it was very hit and miss. The service is quite good and, well, what you would expect from a higher end chain. The restaurant is well appointed and the seating in quite comfortable – the lighting is a bit too dark at table though. As for the food I ordered the ribs which were exceptional but the “crispy” fries were a limp and dark, not the best quality potato. Our table also ordered the pork tenderloin which I was pleased to see was available cooked to order (on a recent trip to J. Alexander our pork tenderloin was dry as they only offer it well done) but despite that fact the bacon wrapped tenderloin was very, very dry. The split chicken was moist and flavorful as were the beans. The worst part of the meal was easily the green chili Mac ‘n Cheese which was simply inedible. Nice idea; horrid execution. The dish was remarkably salty. I thought my fries were over-salted until I tried the mac ‘n cheese. Oh, I almost forgot the ahi tuna appetizer. Pleasant though not exceptional with a well made toastpoint. Overall impression C+. Including one drink each the meal for four was around $170 with tip.

After winning a $25 gift card at the Flicks and Food Tweet-up, my wife and I decided to complete our “stay at home” Labor Day Weekend with dinner at the Roaring Fork on 1604. It was a treat.

We were there during Happy Hour (arrived about 5:30) so we sat in the lounge area. The restaurant was not crowded at all yet. Waitress was pleasant. When we figured out how to deal with the Happy Hour menu, we decided to try a range of things. We each had a caesar salad (not bad, but not great – dressing not a real caesar taste). Also ordered the fried avocado (great) and the “big ass” burger (we split it). Food was really good. Although I had a beer, my wife tried a few of the martinis. She appeared to like them alot.

Service, especially for a not crowded room was a little slow. I can tell that it would get noisy when crowded, especially in the lounge, but the food is probably worth it.

Parking was an issue. My wife needs a handicapped spot and we had to circle the building to get to the HC spots. That’s because the lanes were blocked for the valet parking. I guess it is understandable, but it was a minor inconvenience.

I was pretty disappointed with my experience at the Roaring Fork. I went last weekend with my better half. the decor was lovely, the staff was very friendly and courteous – we even had a wonderfully attentive server. HOWEVER, a restaurant is essentially about the food, and I think their food was not up to par with the other aspects of the restaurant, and the hype they receive around town. i ordered the Tenderloin Sliders…VERY flavorless. The buns were like those premade dinner rolls at thansgiving dinner, the sliders were plain and dry, and the tenderloin was completely underseasoned. The fries were presented adorably in a little kettle, but I tasted more season-all than anything else. The sandwiches were served with aus jous which was a pleasant surprise, but it had minimal flavor and did little to compliment the sliders. my better half had the bigass burger, which was much better than my dish, the meat tasted very fresh and juicy, but the rest of the burger left much to be desired. That burger reminded me of a rock band with a great guitarist, but the rest of the band isn’t as talented. I would give the Roaring Fork another shot, because other aspects of the joint were excellent, but the food was a bit weak.

I notice that most of the posters mention the impeccable service at Roaring Fork. So many good restaurants would be considered great if their service was like that found at Roaring Fork. I also noticed that the quiet environment made my dining experience so much nicer and relaxing.

The menu was unique and the food was great.

    Roaring Fork–a great restaurant.

Today I had my first “Roaring Fork” experience and I am sure it won’t be my last. My sister and I started out with the Guacamole and it was delicious! Like our father’s homemade guacamole, actually. I followed that with the Beef Tenderloin Steak Sliders that were just as tasty! My sister, who was already a “Fork” veteran, insisted I try their Asparagus and Green Chili Mac and Cheese sides. Not a fan of Asparagus or GREEN Mac and Cheese, I was hesitant, but tried both and surprisingly loved them. We had a taste of three different desserts: the Pineapple Cornmeal Upside Down Cake, the Seasonal Fruit Crisp and the Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch Bars. All were delectable, but I LOVED the Pineapple Cornmeal Upside Down Cake. Their service was great– quick and very efficient, I never went without water! Overall, had a 5 star experience. I’ve already recommended RF to 10+ friends :)

First time I’ve ordered Tortilla Soup and actually had the waiter prepare it at the table. Nice!

I have been here only once and enjoyed it. I ate the baby back ribs (1/2 rack) served with fries. Perfect portioning. Service is great. Atmosphere is great. I would definitely go back.

I went to the Roaring Fork today with my friend Vid Luther and I had the chicken rotisserie flat bread, and it was awesome! There was no wait, and the staff was very professional. For instance, our server would say words like “of course” or “certainly” instead of “yeah” or “yup” or “no problem”. Have you all gone through the Ritz Carlton training course or something? Impressive…
