In My Opinion:
Brasserie Pavil – San Antonio, TX – I was invited to lunch by Shawn Owens to celebrate Kathy Cunningham’s birthday today at Brasserie Pavil. I was very surprised that local Tweeps would invite me to dine with them. Needless to say, it was a great experience to sit down one-on-one and have a great conversation with two wonderful people. Upon entering the restaurant, I was kindly greeted by the hostess and showed to the table where my party was sitting. The atmosphere and decor of the place is very well done. Once you leave the entry way, you get that feeling that you’re not in San Antonio anymore. You feel that it’s more like Brasserie Pavil in the middle of Paris, France.
Wow! Everyone was right about the French Onion Soup, it is a must have! I have to say, the onions and cheese have such a rich flavor. It’s absolutely delicious. My main course was The Pulled Duck Confit Sandwich which included: Anjou Pear, Walnuts, Frisée, Dijon, Tomato Relish and it was truly an amazing sandwich. I must admit that I’m a huge fan of duck! Anytime I see duck on the menu at a place, it’s usually a must have for me. The duck had an amazing variety of flavor, the meat was tender, and there was a generous helping. In fact, I was only able to eat half the sandwich, along with the soup, despite being a big guy with a healthy appetite.
Now, on to dessert. I ordered the Classic Creme Brulée, I know what you’re thinking “I can get this anywhere.” Well you’re wrong, because the quality and attention to detail placed into this dessert was amazing. For Kathy, they personalized her plate with “Happy Birthday”, especially for her. The quality of ingredients they used were undeniably top notch. The first mouth full was a mouth watering adventure that hit me with a cascade of vanilla flavor leaving me speechless. All I’ve got to say is Brasserie Pavil can be consider one of the best restaurants I’ve ever dined at, hands down!
Our service was excellent, as Hector (our waiter) came by our table several times and was prompt about telling us the day’s special. I will be going back again soon with friends and family to Brasserie Pavil to give them a taste of great quality French cuisine. One of the many shining moments of our dining experience at Brasserie Pavil, was Luciano (the General Manager) and Scott (the Executive Chef) both coming by our table to talk to us. It was a wonderful opportunity to ask Scott some questions about his background, experience, etc. They did comp our appetizer and Kathy’s dessert. They’re both such awesome guys!
By the way, there’s plenty of parking space, with a parking garage located right next to the restaurant so you can safely park after business hours. This is now one of my top dining options, for sure. Thank you and you all enjoy!

Some friends and I attended one of the fashion shows held at Brasserie Pavil. The weekend before we had a small tasting of their delicious food and ambience while at the Bridal Expo 6/2009. Once I heard of the fashion show I was excited it was being held at Brasserie Pavil.
When we arrived it was a bit unorganized, and we were not attended to while at the bar area. But we chalked it up to the growing crowd. We then went to the Pavilion to join the event and were immediately berrated by a server/manager when we attempted to sit at a table, questioning our purchasing motives!!
After we assured him we would be spending $$ we continued with our event. My party still had a great time! Our assigned server was great (wish I could remember his name) and made us laugh and enjoy ourselves quite a bit.
Additionally his knowldedge of the menu allowed us to all chose dishes which were satisfying and delicious!!
Overall a good experience and I look forward to enjoying a meal/wine when things are a bit calmer =)

my boyf and I went here a few weeks ago and loved it. I’ve been wanting to go here since it opened but just never got around to it.
We went on a saturday, early afternoon. They had the happy hour going on – which is great!
-We had 2 beer flights
The broth could have had some more flavor, but it was still very tasty and the fries are AWESOME!
-Appetizer: Escargot. The escargot was good but I think it might’ve been a little too salty for my taste. I would actually prefer it if the dish didn’t have the puff pastry and the snail was still intact (in it’s shell). But overall, a good dish.
-Boyf had the Moules Frites: The dish was solid. We actually just came back from Belgium so it’s kinda hard to compare moules frites here to Belgium’s.
-I had the Scallop dish. Presentation was great and you get about 6 scallops. The potato slices on the bottom were delish.
We passed on dessert since we had a lot of beer.
We’ve recommended this place to our friends and they went this past weekend and loved it as well.
FYI – Happy hour deals are a great time to go!

I love this place. I always make attempts to try something different and have yet to be disappointed. The food quality is excellent. The service is usually always excellent, but I did have a drop in one time at the bar where wait staff would wisk on by without acknowledging a firm “pardon me” and wave of the hand. Definitely recommended. You’ll be hard pressed to find better food, drinks, and service in San Antonio.

I thought the invitation to tour the kitchen was so awesome, I stayed behind for the cheese fondue, which was well worth it. Frog legs not too bad either…ribbit ribbit…

OK, I confess the Happy Birthday shot of the food was my dessert! I have never had Creme Brulée that came close to what I enjoyed here! It was a truly transporting experience! The French onion soup was wonderful and could be a meal all by itself, with a dessert of course! The salad was a delightful surprise of various textures and flavors. The salad option I picked was a new addition to the menu and I am sorry to say I don’t remember the name. Any wait staff could point you to it I am sure. For a truly artful presentation, a mini vacation, and customer service reserved for celebs, stop by. You will not be unimpressed!

The reason why we went to Brasserie Pavil last Friday was due to a Flicks and Food recommendation. We were NOT disappointed! The atmosphere was great, they catered very well to both my husband, myself AND our 8-year-old son (who, by the way, relished the cheese plate and raw oysters); and the waitstaff was nothing less than exceptional.
For starters, we ordered the assorted cheese plate — it was to die for, an assortment of fresh raw oysters, which were some of the freshest I’ve ever tasted (normally I drench my oyster in ****tail sauce — these were so fresh, all they needed was a bit of lemon and some horseradish).
For our main course, Kendrich (my 8-year-old) opted for the double-meatloaf burger, which was kind of sweet for my tastes, but K seemed to really enjoy it. My husband and I shared the ribeye and lobster tail plate. The ribeye was cooked exactly the way we asked and the lobster tail, which I find can be SO easily screwed up, was cooked perfectly.
Everything was wonderful — I would highly recommend Brasserie Pavil and will definitely go back!!

MMMM…. Brasserie Pavil – one of my favorite places!
I told Robert the French Onion Soup was not to be missed – glad you enjoyed it!
I have enjoyed Sunday brunch there, as well as a couple of lunches, and have not had a bad experience. I agree that the service is wonderful, the hostesses are friendly and the restaurant itself is beautifully appointed. We enjoyed a quick chat with Chef during one of our lunches, which was a nice touch… I’m glad he continues to stop by the tables to greet his guests when he has a chance!
If there was one thing I would do to make the meals I’ve had there even more enjoyable – make the 4-tops just a bit larger. The plates they serve on are generous – as are the portions – so the tables can get crowded pretty quickly, especially over a leisurely meal where all the guests are enjoying more than one course.

Brasserie Pavil is a cute, quaint restaurant that really makes you feel like your somewhere other than San Antonio.
I was especially amazed with their extensive wine selection. If you haven’t been to Pavil, I highly recommend you try it.

Also worth a mention is the beer. Brasserie Pavil has a great set of taps and extensive beer list. Great Texas beers such as Live Oak, other domestics such as Stone IPA, and many, many Belgians, including Maredsous 8 on tap.

I can tell you that the martinis meet the James Bond criterion. To wit, “I never have more than one drink before dinner. But I do like that one to be large and very strong and very cold and very well-made.”

It’s now 10:15 AM and visions of confronting Brasserie Pavil’s menu are tastfully strong.
Beautiful, tempting photos, of equally tempting food choices, have me promising myself to get there soon.
Hubby generally avoids any place that offers frou-frou or fussy type food. But he can’t turn down a good onion soup. I know I can grab him with the photo of the soup. And I know I want the duck.
Thanks for all that you do. I visit here almost every day.
