In My Opinion By Sandra Faulk:
Two Bros. BBQ Market in San Antonio, TX – The Dady brothers latest venture has put all the variables of a successful Texas BBQ restaurant in place. Two Bros. BBQ Market, located at 12656 West Avenue, across the street from Walker Ranch Park, opened just a few weeks ago, in a great old spot with indoor booths and picnic tables, country music playing, and an enormous “back 40″ patio/pit area, with bandstand, HUGE playground and sandbox, and outdoor tables aplenty.

On our first venture, hubby and I took Mom and tried the “2 Bros.” – meant to feed 2 people: 1/2 lb. brisket, 1/2 lb. pulled pork, 1 link sausage, 2 chicken thighs, and 2 pints of sides. Barbecue was the perfect harmony of smoky & juicy. Pinto beans are a real highlight here, Jason Dady has a surprise secret ingredient that just makes them special! Cole Slaw was not a hit with our family – vinegar kind, and very rough cut, but on subsequent trips we’ve tried the macaroni/cheese, potato salad, and creamed corn – all excellent, if not surprising. Lots of fresh white bread, and more food than the three of us could eat – took enough home for 2 of us to have lunch later.

Good beer and wine selection (I think; we’re teatotallers), sweeet & unsweet tea, a great lemonade, and soda bar. Fixin’s bar has all the fresh onions, jalapeno, dill gherkins, and homemade dill pickle chunks (ridiculously good); as well as three kinds of homemade BBQ sauce. One of the sauces, or maybe all, will suit you well.

Great hospitality – we were offered enormous “samples” of their fresh chocolate fudge (wow!), and purchased a pair of hot fried-fresh-for-us strawberry pies for the 3 of us. All in all, one of the finest BBQ meals in Bexar or Comal county, at an incredible value for both the quality AND quantity.

We’ve been back recently to see Two Bros. BBQ Market run out of food far before closing, they’re adjusting to a fast learning curve. Spring and summer’s great weather should bring the people flocking – you can smell the great smoky fragrance for about a quarter-mile.

Hmmmm I’ve not tried the brisket yet. I’m a big fan the pulled pork and chopped beef. I hope more people will get a chance to try this place at least once.

I thought Two Brothers was good enough. We ordered a “2 Bros” family pack with a side of baby back ribs. Overall, the package was hit and miss for me. I loved the brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. The chicken and sauage were rather bland. We choose the Tangy Cole Slaw and BBQ Beans for sides. I didn’t think much of either.

The service was excellent and very accommodating for a take away order.

I’ll definitely give it another go, but may still go out of my way for some Rudy’s.

I am intrigued. My better half and I have a soft spot for good old fashioned Texas BBQ :) Unlike most people, I hate creamy coleslaw and I’m a big fan of the vinegar kind, so going by the previous comments, the slaw gets my attention too. Gotta try this one for sure!

★ @ MomOnMars – I think that is a great observation and would love to sit down with Jason to ask him about that. Also to see what he thinks maybe next on his list of things to do. ★

Anybody else ever notice how Jason’s restaurants seem to follow his life stages? The Lodge in Castle Hills: all about romance. – Bin 555: Sharing for two. – Tre Trattoria: Sharing as a family. – Two Bros. BBQ Market: Focused on the kids. I think it’s so interesting!

Just got back from a brisket lunch. The brisket is excellent, crispy outside and falling apart inside. Texas barbecue done right.

The beans were fairly good. I like vinegar slaw, but Two Bros’ version goes to far with vinegar, salt, and pepper.

The beers were all lagers and all from the US or Mexico, so Two Bros. BBQ Market is not going to make it as a beer joint. On the other hand the wine list (click here to see my photo) is one that I’ve never seen in a BBQ joint and rarely in good restaurants.

The service leaves something to be desired. When you’re carrying wine like Quintessa, the staff should be able to find the vintage(s) offered. When I asked (in an empty dining room, mind you), the woman behind the counter about the wine, she said, “I have no idea,” and turned her back on me.

★ Wow! Everyone’s gotta thank Sandi Faulk for this great review on the Two Bros. BBQ Market joint and introducing it to us. Another great restaurant by Jason Dady! They are serving up some of the most classic Texas pit BBQ with a down home feeling. Thanks to Sandi, our office just went there today for an early dinner. I personally loved the pork ribs and cabrito, they were very tender, tasty, and in my tummy…. ummm ummm good!!! ★
